Territorial Ballot Appeals

SITTING OF MAN POWER COMMITTEE Several appeals by men called up in Territorial ballots were heard by No. 6a Man Power Committee on Saturday. The estate of V. A. Spall appealed for James Frederick Spall on the ground that the interests of the country were far better served by appellant continuing on the farm, where 54 cows were being milked.—Adjourned till March, appellant to take some steps to get. assistance. The Co-operative Wholesale Society, Ltd. (Longburn freezing works) appealed for Charles Andrew Pearson, slaughterman, and John Steedman, carcase trimmer, on the grounds of public interest. The company manager, Mr. W. E. Wilson, said they were only appealing for key men and they asked for a postponement of service only.— In the case of Pearson the appeal was adjourned till March for review, but in the case of Steedman the appeal was dismissed, appellant not to be called up for service before March 31. Colin Sylvester Greer, sharemilking 46 cows at Tiritca on 171 acres, with 16 additional cows to be milked through the winter, was granted an adjournment till March. The Manawatu Reliance Dairy Company appealed for John James Chapman (cheesemakcr). The chairman of directors, Mr. N. R. Gifford-Moore, said the factory manufactured 180 tons of cheese last year and the output would be double this season.— Appellant not to be called up before March 31, 1941. The Tokomaru Dairy Company appealed for Gordon Sheridan (factory assistant). The output last year was 300 tons and this season will be double that amount.— Appellant granted postponement till March 31, 1941. Clifford Massey Russell, employed at the experimental milking shed at Massey College, was granted postponement of service till March 31. Charles Joseph Patrick O’Leary, farming 76 acres at Mangawhata and running 25 cows and 400 ewes with the assistance of a boy of 16 years, said he would have to sell the farm to serve. —Decision reserved. Edward Collins, of Newbury, appealed for a son, Nicholas William Arron Collins. They milk 50 cows on OS acres and another son is on active service.—Adjourned till March, the i father in the meantime to get assistI ance. ! I Kenneth Leslie Anderson, farm assistant, of Tokomaru, asked for postponement of service till March 31. He helps his father milk 83 cows on 135 acres. —Application granted. The Director of National Service appealed for Bussell Herbert Albert Horne, railway porter. —Adjourned till March.
