Spring Show Entries

A GOOD RESPONSE The entries for the Manawatu A. and P. Association’s Spring Show to be held next week reveal a surprisingly small decrease considering the present condi- ' tions. Compared with the entries for tho Hawke’s Bay and Carterton Spring I Shows they are much higher. An analysis of entries discloses the very consoling fact that while tho essentially stud stock classes have attracted the normal quota of support that lias been forthcoming in tho past, there has been a decided gain in sub-sections which cater for the progeny of purebred animals under the hoading of commercial or utility classes. In grade dairy cattle, fat lambs, wool and pigs, which constitute the commercial lines by which the working farmer makes his livelihood, there is a decided inciease which in itself reflects the pleasing evidence that producers are making an earnest endeavour to improve their stock. To bring together tho studmaster and the producing farmer is the real motive of agricultural shows and it niust be very encouraging to the promoters of this year’s fixture to learn that the objective is being realised.
