French Force on Border of Thailand

LONDON, Oct. 24. According to semi-official Japanese sources in Shanghai, the French IndoChina authorities have dispatched nearly 1,000 troops to an area near the south-eastern border of Thailand CSiam). The forces are said to be digging trenches and building barricades. A fleet of three gunboats, five torpedo boats and several submarines is patrolling the Thailand coast. Despatches from Bangkok quote newspapers as reporting that ViceAdmiral Decoux, Governor-General of Indio-China, was attacked by a young French officer, who fired a pistol at Admiral Decoux, but missed.
