Mr. B. M. O'Connor, son of Mrs. P. F. O’Connor, of Ferguson Street, Palmerston North, has socured second place in a new competition for architectural photography held at Auckland University and third place in the brick manufacturers’ prize competition which this year was for a seaside guest house, consisting of a main building and a largo number of detached cottage containing sleeping accommodation for visitors, tho competitors being drawn from the whole architectural faculty. Mr. O ’Connor, who is in the third year of the five-year course, has also passed the terms examinations in five subject.

Managers of banks in Palmerston North gathered yesterday to bid farewell to Mr. M. N. Doig, manager of tho Commercial Bank of Australia for tho last five years, who is leaving at the week-end to take up the position of manager in the Duuodin branch. The opportunity was abo taken to welcome his successor, Mr. E. S. R. Dale, of Wanganui. Mr. Doig was entertained at morning tea, after which, on behalf of those present, Mr. A. J. M. Goodwm, manager of the local branch of tho Bank, of New South Wales, made a presentation to Mr. Doig, with the good wishes of those present, congratulating him on hia promotion and expressing regret at his departure. Two retirod bank managers, Messrs. A. Grigor and A. G. Lawson, were present, and both also expressed good wishes to Mr. Doig. A presentation from tho staff of the Commercial Bank was made to Mr. Doig earlier in the week.
