Ruawhata Guild’s Successful Social Afternoon
A social held on Saturday last at Mangatainoka under the auspices of the combined Presbyterian and Church of England Guilds from Ruawhata proved very successful. An improvement in the weather encouraged a large attendance of people to whom thanks for their support was extended by tho presidents of the two guilds, Mesdames W. Fergus and W. D. Harris. The proceeds were to bo for the benefit of the Ruawhata Sunday SchooL During tho afternoon there were musical items, Miss Swanney contributing solos while Mrs. and Miss Cox led a community sing. The accompanist was Mrs. Rusden. Good entries were received for the floral and cooking competitions which ' were a featui'e of the occasion. The fallowing results were obtained:— Plain sponge: Mrs. J. A. Ross 1, Miss Fergus 2. Brown butter sponge: Mrs. S. Clarke 1, Miss Fergus 2. Decorated vase: Mrs. W. Davenport Posy: Miss Fergus 1. Buttonhole: Mrs. Smith 1. Shoulder spray: Mrs, Smith 1. Presentation box: Miss Fergus 1. Children’s class, decorated saucer: Diana Davenport 1. Buttonhole: Barbara Brown 1. Posy: Diana Davenport I.
