School Committees
WEST END SCHOOL At a meeting of the West End School Committee on Wednesday, Mr. G. Tremaine presided. The resignation of Mr. N. Hume from the committee was received with regret. Mr. J. W. Davis was elected to fill the vacancy. Mr. E. Humphries was appointed to the baths committee. This committee was instructed to spend £2O on the painting of the baths. It was decided to make an application to the Wanganui Education Board for the provision of additional wash basins and bubble drinking fountains. A grant of £5 for purchases for the infant room was approved. The headmaster (Mr. H. W. Jackson) reported that tho roll number now stood at 505 and the average attendance for the past four weeks had been 407.8. Mrs. F. Allen was acting as supernumerary and Mrs. 8. Ward as relieving teacher in place of Miss E. McLean and Mr. C. Bell, respectively, each of whom had been granted a week’s leave of abseuce. During the month 25 dozen eggs had beon donated by the children aud these had been distributed equally to the Willard and All Saints' Children's Homes. Dr. Boddy, Dr. PlattsMills and Nurse Bell had been engaged in giving dibptheria immunisation treatment, HOKOWHITU Mr. H- W. Cox presided at a meeting of the Hokowbitu School Committee on Wednesday. Congratulations were ex tended to Mr. K. M. White, who has been asting as headmaster of the Hoko whitu School for the last six months, on his appointment as assistant-master at the Intermediate School. It was de-
cided to grant all children who secured life-saving certificates last year a free season ticket for the school baths for the coming season. The acting-head-master (Mr. White) stated that the roll cumber now stood at 259. Most of the
plan of improvements submitted at the previous committee meeting had been carried out, A donation of two dozen shrubs and 130 plantings for a hedge had been received from Air. Harrison. The egg collection for the Willard Home was being carried out this week, and so far had yielded excellent results. Dr. Boddy, Nurse Bell and Miss Millar had inoculated over 400 of ‘the junior
children against diphtheria. Dr. Duncan Cook was also in attendance one day during the treatment. Messrs Blake (senior inspector), Crosby and Merrington made their annual inspection visit, and submitted a favourable report, the schoolenvironment and general conditions being graded very high.
