FAST TEAR RE VIEWED Mr. S, Or. Brechin presided over & large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Mangamutn Tennis Club held in the Pahiatua. Borough Chambers on Thursday night. Apologies were received from Mrs. A. Carlyon, Miss K. Dick and Mr. D. O ’Brien, Annual Report. The text of the annual report, which wa« adopted, read as follows: 1 The courts were opened by the president (Mr. J, O. Brechin) on October 8, a very successful and enjoyable afternoon being enjoyed by visitors and members. “The senior ladder has 75 names to its credit, while the junior ladder has seven. * * Both A and B teams played some very interesting inter-club matches during the season. “The club championships were held as usual. The results were as follows: .Senior men’s, D. O’Brien (J. Ammundsen runner-up)j ladies’ senior, Miss K. O’Brien (Mrs. A. Morgan runner-np); men’s junior, Q. Holdaway (G. Tait runner-up); ladies’ junior, Miss Braggins (Miss G. Humphries runner-up); combined doubles, C. Davies and Mrs. McCardle; ladies’ doubles, Mrs. Wilkinson and Miss K. Dick; men’s doubles, not finalised. “Quite a number of improvements were made to the surroundings, such as painting the pavilion, installing new tank, levelling round ends of new courts and cutting trees.
“The club ha 3 finished this season with the courts in good repair, two good nets and two that need a little attention. The umpire stands are quite good and surroundings excellent. “Two very handsome silver cups were donated during the season for .-e club’s senior championships, ono by Mr. L. Hamilton and the other by Mrs. A. Morgan. Mr. Etz also donated two very nice cups, to be played for each closing day (finalists’ cups). “Before closing my report I wish to thank the members of the committee who assisted in making the past season a very successful one.”
In moving the adoption of the report, Mr. Brechin said it was quite impossible for him adequately to express thauks to all who had helped make the season the success it had been. He mentioned their success financially in reducing the overdraft from £47 to £29 and said that he looked forward to the time when the club should owe nothing. In this connection he referred to the splendid work of Miss Naughton and Mrs. A. Morgan. He thought the past one had been the happiest in the club’s
