(From Our Own Correspondent.) The following local men have received notice to proceed to camp shortly for traing:Messrs. D. Aiteheson, E. Easton, D. (J. Hill aud T. Sunley. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Gunning, Bryce {Street, will regret to learn that tho condition of Mr. Gunning, who has been in ill-health over a period of years, and who is at present in a private hospital in Palmerston North, is causing considerable anxiety to the family. All will join in wishing Mr. Gunning a speedy and complete recovery. Tho Town Clerk, Mr. J. T. Bovis, has received from tho Mayor of Levin, Headquarters of Zone F., advice that a drive is being made throughout the Dominion for funds for the relief of distress in tho areas of Great Britain w’hich have suffered from tho brutal bombing raids. Those who are in a position to assist this worthy cause, are earnestly requested to do so. Contributions to this fund may be left'with the Town Clerk at the Borough Council Chambers.
The stroke competition played at Buckley last Saturday was won by V. Picard who returned a card of 90—24 66. On Sunday, a fourball-bcstball bogey was played, and resulted in a win for D. lliggie and 11. Pope who finished 4 up on tho colonel. Ori Sunday next, the Buckley team will play Herington at Foxton, when tho following will represent tho local team: Picard (2), Norris, lliggie, Harding, Birch, Kerena, King, Graham, McSweeney, H. Pope, H. Moore, E. Easton, and Perry. On Saturday next a Stableford will be played, aud players are reminded that the draw will take place at the clubHouse. The draw for tho stroke competition to be played this vveek-end is as follows:—Mrs. V. Popo and Mrs. S. L. Graham, Mrs. R. J. Barber and Mrs. A. L. Edwards, Mrs. W. lliggie and Miss Lois Easton, Miss Nancy Easton and Mrs. Reg. Graham, Mrs. C. Btcrn aud Miss Miers, Miss J. Park and Miss Hopkinson, Miss D. Long Ward a bye. The winner of last week's bogey competition was Mrs. R. J. Barber 1 down.' The winners of tho eclectic competition were:—Senior, Mis. W. lliggie; junior, Miss Deirdro Leng Ward. Card Parties Thero was a record attendanco at last week’s evening card party run by tho Women's Institute, the prizo winners being Mr. Cook (men’s) and Miss Flutey (ladies'). On Tuesday afternoon at the prograssive euchre party run by members of the Social committee of tho Anglican Church, tho prizo winners were Mrs. Lee, Snr. 1, Mrs. T. Bell 2. A consolation was given to Mrs. H. W. Knowles. The hostesses were Mesdames D. Jenkins and G. Goodwillic.
