AUDIENCE WITH KING
(British Official Wireless) (Received 25, 12.45 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 24. The Prime Minister, Mr Churchill, had an audience with the King at Buckingham Palace to-day. BRITISH SUBMARINE LOST (Received 25, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 24. The Admiralty announces that his Majesty’s submarine Thames is overdue and must be presumed lost, The Thames, which was completed in 1932, had the distinction of being the first Diesel-driven submarine to exceed 21 knots. Her increased size was devoted to greatly augmented engine power with the object of securing higher surface speed. She had a submerged displacement of 2680 tons and was 325 ft. in length. She carried a reimplement of GO. RUMANIA DEMOBILISING (Received 25 1.30 p.m.) BUCHAREST, Sept. 24. It is officially stated that Rumania is demobilising 40 per cent, of her army for supplying agricultural labour.
