Milk Zoning in Feilding
CO-OPERATION OF PUBLIC REQUESTED
In our advertising columns ifc is announced that milk distribution in Feilding is to be zoned as from Monday next. This is in response to the urgent appeal to tradesmen by the Government to conserve the use of petrol iu every way possible, and deserves the loyal co-operation of every Feilding citizeu, for it is a very definite step iu building up our own defence. That the introduction of zoning in milk distribution will mean a decided saving in petrol consumption will be easily recognised by anybody w'lio has watched the number of milk vehicles that pass along almost any street in Feilding. According to what is considered a conservative estimate by those who have had the working out of tho zoning scheme that is to be put into operation on Monday next., mileage will be saved varying from onc-half to three-quarters of that at present being traversed. It will be noted also that, along with the zoning system, the eoupon system of payment is to be introduced. This, if carried to its logical conclusion, should also result iu a definite lift to our war effort. The idea is that, instead of running a weekly or monthly account, the customer buj’s the equivalent of his account in advance, in coupons. These the milkman will collect on his daily round according to the milk supplied ou any one day. In following out this idea, it will be seen that it will enable time now spent in making out accounts to be turned into productive channels such as building up the feed supply for the cattle, which is the only immediate way of increasing our dairy output.
