Formerly for many years Auckland district secretary of the Ancient Order of Foresters, Mr. Robert Carby Darlow died at his home at Birkenhead on Monday night, aged 84. Mr. J. C. Neill, mycologist at tho Government scientific research station, Auckland, is visiting Palmerston North on departmental business. Mr. Neill is well-known in this city, having lived lioro for a number of years. Staff Sergeant-Major E. P. Meachen, M.P. for Marlborough, has been granted six weeks ’ leave from his military duties as a result of breaking a small bone in his ankle when he slipped on a step at Trentham Camp. He has returned to Blcuheim.
A well-known figure in tho New Zealand theatrical and film world for more than 30 years has been removed by the death in Wellington of Mr. Barrio Yelverton Marschel, at the age of 82. Mr. Marschel in his earlier days was an actor and later organised companies of his own. After the advent of motion pictures he was associated for a long period with tho Fuller-Hayward enterprises, and managed theatres at a number of places, including Hamilton, Timaru, Dunedin and Invercargill.
Mr. A. Bowden, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Bowden, of Palmerston North, who for the last six years has been Government Statistician in South Australia, is now also Government Actuary there. Mr. Bowden was educated at the Palmerston North Boys’ High School and gained a University Scholarship. He continued his studies at Victoria University College, and eventually took ujj actuarial work. He subsequently joined the actuarial staff of the Government Life Insurance Department, which ho left to take up his appointment at Adelaide.
