Germans Now Marching Into Paris
Hitler Orders Flagwaving and Bellringing
Received Saturday, 12.28 a.m. LONDON, June 14. A Berlin special communique says German troops are now marching into Paris. A communique from the Fuhrer’s headquarters says: “The French proclaimed Paris an open city and abstained from defending it. The victorious German troops are now entering.” Hitler ordered bellringing for 15 minutes to-day and the beflagging of the whole countryside for three days. Received Friday, 8.20 p.m. WASHINGTON, June U.
The American Ambassador to France, Mr. William C. Bullitt, informed the State Department that the Germans were “inside the gates of Paris at 2.21 a.m.” Mr. Bullitt informed Mr. Cordell Hull that he was withdrawing from Paris with the army.
