Congregational Ladies’ Guild

MISSIONARY AFTERNOON Tho monthly meeting of the guild was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Stewart Wright, president of the Missionary Auxiliary, in tho chair. This being missionary afternoon, gifts were brought for the leper hospital at Port Moresby. This hospital has been built by the London Missionary Society and is maintained by all the Congregational Churches in New Zealand. After the usual devotions, Mrs. Eastman, L.M.S. deputation from Gilbert Island, gave a talk on tho women of the island. This was followed with wrapt attention by all present and was most interesting and helpful, showing particularly the difference it made when these women decided to take Christ as their Saviom*, their whole nature undergoing a complete change. Tho speaker was thanked by Mrs. Wright. The secretary, Mrs. Nieholls, intimated that the women’s day of prayer would be held on June 20. This day is organised by the Federation of Congregational Women and is a yearly event. Mention was also made by the secretary for the need of helping with the sewing for the refugees. The meeting closed with the Benediction, after which afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mrs. Claridge and Miss Rose Edwards. These ladies were thanked by Mrs. Garner.
