Evening Function For a Bride-to-be
A pleasant evening was held iu the Jubilee Hall, Halcombe, last Friday in honour of Miss Violet Blundcn, who is shortly to be married. The evening was spent in cards and dancing, winners of card prizes being: Mrs. McNae (ladies), Mr. W. McLennan (men’s). Pleasing items were rendered during the evening by Mrs. Curtis with vocal solos, obligatos being provided by Mr. A. Feeney (violin) and Mrs. Woodwood at the piano. They responded to an encore which was very much enjoyed.
Mrs. F.' Brett, president of the W.D.F.U., wished Miss Blundcn every happiness and called on Mr. Page (president of tho Farmers’ Union) to present her with a handsome combination firescreen. On behalf of the Young Farmers' Club, Mr. Buchanan spoke very highly of the work of Miss Blundcn had done and said she would be missed very much. He asked hor to accept a beautiful douW'o pyrex dish in a silver stand, wishing her the best of luck.
Miss Lily Prior asked Miss Blunden to accept a case of silver teaspoons from the Junior Division of which she was a very active member. There were several other presents from those who attended.
Miss Blunden suitably responded, thanking everyone for the presents and good wishes. Dancing was carried on 'until half-past twelve. Winners of the lucky Gay Gordons were E. Ferguson and N. Marshall.
