The death is announced from London of Sir John Haslam, who had been Conservative member for Bolton since 1031. He was chairman of the organi-

sation committee of the National Federation of Grocers’ Assertions from 1911-23.

The death occured in England on April 6 of Mr. B. D. Whyte, an erstwhile resident of Palmerston North. A Scotsman he came to New Zealand as a young man, serving in the last war with our forces. After the war he returned and for many years carried on business as a grocer on the corner of Main Street and Ruahine Street. About eight years ago he returned to England with his wife and family to carry on a similar business at Luton in Bedfordshire . He leaves a widow and two children, whose present address is 83. St. Augustine’s Ave., Luton, Beds., England. He died after an illness lasting three weeks.
