CHAMPIONSHIPS AND SPECIAL TROPHIES In connection with the annual festival of the Manawatu Competitions 'held last week, the following championships and special prize-winners have been announced:— Championships Champion lady vocalist: Miss Doris Price (Palmerston North), 18 points. Champion gentleman vocalist: Mr. Walter Bentley (Napier), 20 points. Champion lady elocutionist-: Miss Elaine Short (Feilding), 23 points. Champion girl elocutionist: Peggy Linnell (Hastings), 14 points. Champion boy elocutionist: Ray McKenzie (Hauraki Plains), 14 points. Champion operatic dancer: Ngaire Bvnam (Lower Hurt), 18 points. Champion national dancer: Janet Cunningham (Gore.) and Dorothy McLean (Palmerston North), 13 points each. Cups for Special Awards Miss Gibbs’ cup for dancing (open classes): Isa McKenzie (Palmerston North), 33 points. Miss Jean Scott’s cup for dancing
(under 13): Valerie Holder (Lower Hutt), 32 points. Miss Lorna McAffer’g challenge cup for ballet in costume (13 and over): Broadway School of Dancing. Air. R. Bailey’s challenge cup for champion lady elocutionist: Miss Elaine Short (Feilding). Aliss Irene Stone’s cup for class 120: Isa McKenzie (Palmerston North). Mr. C. W. Shirriff’s cup for class 33: Air. W. Bentley (Napier). Airs. D. Watson’s cup for national dancing (classes 156, 159, 162 and 305): Joyce Thompson (Napier). Silver medal for most promising tapdancer under 6 years: Kathleen Rhodes (Wanganui). At the demonstration concert held on Saturday evening there was a capacity house, which enjoyed an entertaining programme.
