Speaking at the patriotic concert organised by Miss Marie Moffat and held in the Opera House on Saturday evening, Cr. W. Blair Tennent, who was . deputising for the Mayor, said the small attendance was a downright disgrace to the city. Apart from the purpose for which the concert had been given (to raise funds for soldiers’ comforts), all would agree it had been' excellent, demonstrating that in our midst we had artists of as fine a character and type as would be found anywhere in New Zealand. Under the capable leadership of Mr. C. Mowlem, the new symphony orchestra had proved an asset worth holding on to. He trusted they would bo heard again in the near future and that all present would come along and bring their friends to fill the Opera House to overflowing.
