CLAUDELANDS COMMENT (Special to “Times.”) HAMILTON, April 20. There was a mild surprise in the Haeremai Handicap when the Taranakitrained Worthy Treasure, after trailing Silver Countess for a mile, rail to the front and without any particular effort went on to win by eight lengths from Barney Bingen, who would have given more trouble had she not made as many lapses when going fast. Golden Journey, always in third place, could not improve, while Silver Countess, who tired, was fourth. • Snowy Bingen went to the lead in the Pioneer Handicap and although Delris, Exporter and Guide Peter went up very handy early, Snowy Bingen would not surrender his position, and, coming away over the last furlong, won comfortably by three lengths. Magic Task, who appeared in the picture three furlongs from home, went up fast to be with Delris at the turn amd in a good fight Delris gained second place by a neck. Exporter, Nawton Junior and Silk Lady were next. It was with a hUgh-class performance that Del Potts, after being sent right back in the middle stages, got up to win the Moutoa Handicap in a fine finish in which little separated the first five horses. Linnett led a bunched field round the home turn, but Bingen’s Best, Radio Queen and Alcazar headed her, while Del Potts flashed up on the outside to beat Bingen’s Best by a neck with Radio Queen a head away third. Alcazar was almost in line.

Bronze Queen won the Centennial Handicap from end to end, but had not much to spare from Munga Tangi and Gold Circle, whom the judge toas unable to separate. Belfast Jack, when running third three furlongs from home, lost his driver. Bronze Queen led to the mile in 2.18 and passed the mile and a-half in 3.27 with Gold Circle and Munga Tangi following closely. In a splendid finish Bronze Queen held on

to win by half a length from Gold Circle and Munga Tangi with Tangatu a good fourth. Taking the lead from Great Guy after going five furlongs Barney Bingen won the Rutland Handicap by half a head from the each-way favourite Josedale Dictator, who was never further back than third. He ran into second place half a mile from home but was several lengths behind Barney Bingen, who broke at the turn but did not lose any ground. She hung on resolutely when challenged by Josedalo Dictator, who trotted a faultless race. Sir finished a little better than Margin to secure third money. After a number of placed efforts Excel scored her first success when she finished very solidly to defeat Magic Task in the Petre Handicap. She was not greatly fancied and paid a fine price. Nawton. Junior and Sir Echo were at the head of the field for most of the way, but when Excel, Magic Task and Barbara Scott appeared in the run to the post the leaders faded, although Nawton Junior was fourth at the post. There was a spirited finish in the Major Kemp Handicap between Nar* bada and Handicapper, and after a hard fight Narbada just shaded Handicapper with Monty Chimes nearly three lengths away third. Hori Bingen began smartly from Chaise, who almost came down after going a furlong. Handicapper headed Hori Bingen at the turn and appeared the likely winner until Narbada challenged to beat him by a head in a good finish.

Munga Tangi got up to shado True Trust, who made a fine effort to win the Aotearoa Handicap from end to end by a neck. Tinker, always well placed, could not do better than third, but he was very close up. Ace High ran on well to bo fourth almost in line with Civic and Television.
