Notes of the Day
At the meeting of the committee of the Feilding A. and P. Association on Friday evening resolutions of sympathy were passed to the relatives of the late Mr. A. J. Humphreys, the late Mr. E. P. Mason, aud the late Mr. Jack Stevens. Sympathy was also expressed to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Waldin in the death of their little daughter. It was rather unfortunate that the contractors in charge of tho reconstruction and sealing of Stewart’s Line off Awahuri Road should have decided to close Stewart’s Line on Saturday afternoon at an hour when traffic was commencing to make its way for the Mt. Stewart pioneers’ memorial ceremony. All traffic from the Feilding area was, as a consequence, obliged to make a long detour via Awahuri and this was rather inconveniencing. Discussing tlio matter of a contribution to tho Feilding Patriotic Fund at Friday’s meeting of the Feilding A. and P. Association, it was stated that a sum of £25 5s 6d had beeu realised in connection with the sale of a sheep which Mr. W. G. Booth had organised. On tho motion of Mr. H. B. Johnston it was decided to invite members to pay an extra shilling on their subscriptions to the association for the duration of the war and that this shilling bo donated to the local patriotic fund. Instead of paying, £.l members will be invited to pay £1 Is.
