Feilding A. and P. Association
MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE The committee of the Feilding A. and P. Association met on Friday night, Mr. W. G. Booth (president) presiding over a good attendance. The Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association wrote congratulating the association on the manner in which the pig section was conducted at the last show and also commending Mr. U. E. Thurston for his help. The president said it was very nice to receive such a letter from Taranaki pig breeders for it indicated that the attention give the pig section by the association was appreciated. Letters were received from the Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band and St. John Ambulance Association acknowledging donations from the association.
The meeting thanked Mrs. C. Turner, of Kairanga, for a donation of 25s for a special prize iu tho cookery class for the 1941 show.
Thanks were accorded the following judges who wrote declining to claim expenses for attending the last show: Miss M. Murdoch (Feilding), Mr. J. Trotter (Dannevirke), Mr. J. Hunter (Fordell) and Mr. G. Godward (Feilding).
In connection with a letter from the Masterton A. and P. Association, recommending the formation of a Light Horse Breeds Association, it was decided to appoint Mr. J. B. Bradley to represent the association at a conference on the subject to be held in Palmerston North during the Winter Show.
Notification was received from the Western District conference of the North Island A. and P. Associations that Feilding had been allotted Tuesday and Wednesday, February 4 and 5, 1941, for their show. It was stated that these dates had been fixed as no Friday or Saturday had been available.
Donations were acknowledged from the following: Mr. E. D. Warburton, £5 os; Mr. J. Knight, £6 12s 6d; Mr. R. J. Shortall, jur., £5 ss. Reporting on the statement of accounts for the year the executive committee stated that a small loss had been made on the last show. The balancesheet revealed a loss of £IS2 on the year’s -working after writing off depreciation amounting to £199 17s 6d. As against this the actual cash position was slightly better than for the year 1939, there being a credit balance at the bank of £345 as compared with £330 at the close of the last financial year. The position was considered quite satisfactory notwithstanding a slight loss on the show. Mr. L. J. Wild, commenting on the position, said that there was always a tendency when the association was doing well for members to take things easy and to pay for work which otherwise would be dealt with by workingbees. Ho reiterated his idea that to encourage public support the show should be made free of any admission charge. It was agreed to submit the following remits to the forthcoming A. and P. Associations’ conference:— “That this conference recommends all associations, and especially the Council of the Royal Agricultural Society, to consider the question of having all judging of dairy cattle of pro ductive age carried out on a basis of type and production combined.” “That all judges of fat stock at pre sent on the list be called together and asked to form an association of fat stock judges and, having done so, to appoint junior judges and generally control tho fat stock judges’ list.”
