From Our Own Correspondent. Mrs. Brooker. of Auckland. Is the guest of her staler, Mrs. A. E. White, and Mr. Whit*. Miss L. Cooksley motored to Wellington on Tuesday to visit the Centennial Exhibition and she will remain in the capital city for several days. Mrs. R. ft. Krivan visited Wellington on Friday last, where she met her parents, Mr, and Mrs. G. Ranson, who returned fi*om an overseas tour. Mrs. Christensen, snr., of Palmerston North, Is staying with her son, Mr. O. Christensen, and Mrs. Christensen. The Opiki Women's Institute picnic held at the Esplanade on Saturday attracted a goodly number of members, their li*s bands and children. Perfect weather added to the enjoyment of those who appreciated a day in such beautiful surroundings. The children spent a happy afternoon in the playground and paddling pool and showed their appreciation in no uncertain manner. Lunch eaten picnic fashion was followed by ices and sweets, after which energetic folk inspected the ground* while others spent a restful day in the shade of the trees. The annual breaking-up day ceremony of the Opiki School will be held this evening. A concert by the pupils will precede the prize-giving ceremony, and a dance will conclude the evening. It has been decided to let the contract for the proposed concrete tennis court, to be completed during the school holidays. If sufficient funds are available a double court will be put down.
