Bremen Reaches Dock Safely
WHY SHE WAS NOT TORPEDOED LONDON, Dec. 13. The North German Lloyd Co. announced to-day at New York that their liner Bremen had docked safely at Bremerhaven at noon, German time. In the House of Lords, Lord Strabolgi, Chief Opposition Whip, said that the Bremen was not torpedoed by the British submarine when the opportunity occurred bocauso we were engaged in a war against international lawlessness, and it was one of tho law of sen warfare that merchantmen should not be sunk unless it was possible for their crews to be placed in a place of safety. The Bremen was a merchantman, although she w r as armed. If she had been sunk the chances of the crew being saved would have been very small. It was impossible to w’arn the Bremen, and the British Navy did not wish to follow the example of the Nazis.
