Massey College Appointment
MB. M. M. COOPER, POEMEE GRADUATE Mr. H. M. Cooper, B.Agr.Sc., B.Litt. (Oxon), diploma Hural Economy (Oxon) and former Rhodes scholar as well as a graduate of Massey College, was yester.day appointed lecturer in dairy husbandry at Massey College by the board of governors. He succeeds Dr. C. P. McMeekan, also a Massey College graduate, who has been appointed to the chair of agriculture (animal husbandry) at Canterbury Agricultural Colloge, Lincoln. t Mr. Cooper attended the Napier Boys High School from 1024 to 1928 and in 1920 commenced lectures for the degree of B.Agr.Se. at Victoria University College. From 1030 to 1934 he attended Massey College, completing the degree. In 1933 be was awarded a Rhodes scholarship aud proceeded to Oxford in 1934. During his first academic year ho obtained a post-graduate diploma in rural economy. During tho next two years he was engaged in post-graduate study in agricultural economics and gained the degree of B.Litt in social otudies. In 1937 Mr. Cooper returned to New Zealand and accepted a position in the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research aud at the present time holds tho position of secretary of tho National Council of Primary Production. When attending Massey College, Mr. Cooper took an active part in student life, being founder and editor for three years of the college magazine. He was president of the Students' Association for two years, secretary of the football elub for oue year and captain for three year. At Oxford he was successively secretary and captain of the Rugby club. Ho has also represented Manawatu and Wellington on the Rugby field, captaining tho latter side. In 1903 he was awarded a New Zealand University “blue" in Rugby.
