Hastings Track Notes

STERNCHASE DOES GOOD SIX FURLONGS From Our Own Correspondent. HASTINGS, Dec. 14. With Hastings-trained horses racing at Auckland, Awapuni, Waipukurau. Tauherenikau, Marton and Hastings at the holiday fixtures, many were out this morning indulging in interesting work on the inside grass and the plough. Both tracks were in excellent l order after the rain, and where not j specified, the following trials were I done on the grass:— # # » A few minutes before 5 a.m. Banian (Q. Stowe) and Tractive (B. Stowe) were sprinted three furlongs, with Tractive slightly shading his stablemate in 40secs, on the plough. Centrepoise (H- Murray) was never off the Pit when registering 1.19 J for six furlongs, the last half-mile in 52 secs. The Manawatu Cup top-weight was never better. * * • On the plough Beaulivre (B. Stowe) assisted oyer the last half-mile by Vogi, (W. Aitken), ran six furlongs leisurely and without effort in 1.18, the last three furlongs in 40isecs. * # The Tra,ctor-Valma filly (Mr J. Paul) appeared to hold the measure of Lady Garvagh (Murray) over three furlongs in the fairly fast time of 37£secs. • ♦ # Oxyopia (Power), who has only recently returned to Hastings, was restricted to a working gallop over six furlongs in 1.25. # # • Royal Star II (Baker), also on the plough, was under restraint when recording 53secs (the last three in 40Jsec) for a half-mile. *r « • On the plough. Tidal Lass (Mudford) and Hyderabad (Marsh), in a working gallop, took 1.22 for threequarters of a mile, with both doing their tasks comfortably. Silver Bat (Marsh) was not set a bard task when imated with Fasolt (Power) over five furlongs, as she came home under a strong hold in 66£ secs # * • Boatsong (Mudford) and Lindrum (Murray) took I.lߣ for their six furlongs. Both Amalgamation Hack Cup candidates worked nicely, finishing strongly and full of running. • * • Golden Melody (J. Forsyth) alone, was not out to make time when running six furlongs in 1.24. * * • First Chapter (Baker) and Arabic GVludford), aftej running the first * n 37$secs. ran six in' * • • Le Toquet (Forsyth), with Smooger (Baker) recorded 1.19£ for six furlongs, the first three in 38secs. The former appears to be at his best. * * * From a time point of view Sternchase (Forsyth) recorded the best of the morning when timed to do his six furlongs in 1.17 J, the first half of the journey in a shade faster than 38sec.
