License Fees for Farmers’ Trucks

The matter of the collection of heavy traffic fees on farmers’ trucks was mentioned at yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council in a letter from the Kairanga County Council which 6Ct out that with the exception of the Pohangina County Council, all local bodies in the group were complying with the regulations. Further representations had been made to the Pohangina Council, and a reply was awaited. Cr. A. Campbell (chairman) said that if a local body refused to collect the fees it would create an unfair position as the remaining local bodies in the group would be deprived of their share of the revenue previously collected while there would be a distribution of the revenue collected to all local bodies. It would be necessary, if the heavy traffic fees on farmers’ trucks were not to be collected to have a revision of the existing group arrangement.

Cr. T. Green said that it had been proposed to the Kairanga C.C. that a meeting of the group local bodies should be called to review the position arising from the attitude of the Pohangina County Council. It w'as agreed to hold over action pending the receipt of a further communication from tho Kairanga County Council.
