Feilding’s Fire Fighting Unit
SUPERINTENDENT COMPLIMENTED In an exchange of festive season greetings at yesterday ’s meeting of tho Feilding Fire Board the chairman (Mr. W. E. Carthew) referred to the very happy relations between the board and the brigade. The board was very fortunate in that there was no friction and in fact everything went along so smoothly that at times one almost forgot that there was a fire fighting service in the town. He considered that this very happy state of affairs was largely due to the superintendent, Mr. O. C. Sporle. Supporting the greetings to the brigade staff, Mr. L. A. Hutton, underwriters’ representative from Wellington, said that he heartily agreed with the chairman’s remarks. He expressed the hope that when the next meeting came round the war clouds would have dispersed but if the war continued they would all face up to it with every confidence that the Allies would come out on top. Mr. V. E. Smith also offered his congratulations to the superintendent and men. Mr. Sporle acknowledged the greetings and heartily reciprocated.
