Chances for Young Men On Farms

GROUP SYSTEM EXPLAINED HAMILTON, Nov. 29. The conditions under which young men may take up farming for a livelihood under the Auckland Youths’ Farm Settlement Board’s scheme was described in detail by Dr. H. E. Annett at a meeting of the Auckland council of the Young Farmers' Club movement to-day. He explained that the objective of the scheme was to form groups of lads desirous of becoming farmers on their own land who would be financed and settled at the expiration of approximately five years from the formation of the group. Several other methods of settling young men on the land were discussed, and a committee was appointed to bring down a report on the most workable scheme. The meeting resolved that Young Farmers’ Clubs should co-operate in every way possible with the National Council of Primary Production to increase production during the war period.. The council agreed to vote £lO as prize-money for an essay on some aspects of farming. Advice was received that the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, had agreed to allot bursaries, tenable at an agricultural college and available to members of Young Farmers’ Clubs. The council was asked to submit its views on tne conditions attaching to the bursaries. A committee was appointed to submit suggestions to the Minister.
