Letter to Doctor.

[ A Dunedin doctor has received a letter that has a rather pathetic interest from a Paris firm which specialises in medical supplies. It reads: “The workers of our factory are mostly women. Only a foreman and the manager have been mobilised. Our women are now left alone to earn the living of their families as their men have gone to the war. Therefore, we would be most grateful if w’e had enough orders to keep our factory going. We have no chance at present to receive orders from European countries, but you are far away and we hope that you will be willing not to restrict your purchases. W« beg you to give us the chance by sending us your orders to keep things going.” The firm, incidentally, has an international reputation. Unfortunately, it can count on no aid from New Zealand. Its products may be on the banned list, but in any event the problem of forwarding the necessary payments effectually blocks purchases from tho Dominion. According to one educationist, the modern schoolboy is almost a blase man of the world. We heard of one who thought that the three R's was a jazz trio.
