Useful Rain Does Not Affect Addington Sale

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 22. Although fairly steady and useful rain, the first for weeks, fell to-day, if did not have much responso in the market for store stock at Addington to-day. Store sheep maintained last week’s rates for best classes of ewes and lambs and hoggets, but second -itv and inferior were hard to quit. Fat lambs, of which the entry was too big, eased and in the fat sheep section good wethers showed an advance. A heavy entry affected the fat cattle sale, good beef being down by 10s to los. Cows and porkers were firmer, but baconcis were easier. Storo sheep: The yarding was about normal and the sale for good lines about on a par with last week’s reduced rates, but ordinary or unfinished sorts wero hard to sell and many pens were passed. Ewes and lambs ranged from 10s to J3s all counted; a wellfinished lino of two-tooth half-breds and fhree-quarter-bred shorn ewes made 235, with two-t.ooth shorn -wethers at 16s and medium sorts from 9s 8d to 13s. Fat lambs: Tho yarding of 400 was too big for the butchers and the salo eased off. Medium and prime lambs sold well between Sd and 9d lb., with heavier sorts slightly less. Fat sheep: The entry was 5500, which was 4000 less than the figure of the previous week. There were few lines from the south, but a good showing of Chatham Islands sheep. A line of Chatham Islands wethers sold from 32s lOd to 37s 4d, averaging 35s o*d; prime heavy -wethers sold to 33s 6d, ordinary to 25s and light to 21s; prime heavy ewes sold to 265, ordinary to 19s and light to 15s. Fat cattle: The entry was again largo and with a lessening in quality, opened slaclcly at a lower level. There were individual cases in which last week’s values wero maintained, but on tho average the market was down 15s. Steers at £23 2s fid topped tho market; primo heavy steers made to £2O, primo heifers to £ls 12s fid, and primo cows to £ll 15s, with medium cows £S 15s to £9 15s.
