Prepare for Christmas Now

AN ECONOMICAL CAKE Four ounces of flour, 2oz. of chopped mixed peel, 4oz. of butter, Boz. of chopped stoned raisins, 2 eggs, i teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of mixed spice, 2oz. of ground almonds, 4oz. of glace pineapple, 4oz. of castor sugar, Boz. of sultanas (or currants), i gill of rum, 2oz. of glaco cherries, and lioz. of black treacle. Beat tho butter and sugar to a cream, then add the eggs, one at a time, and beat them in well. Add the dry ingredients, mixed together, putting in the treacle half-way through, and the rum right at the end. Stir till well Wended, then turn into the prepared tin (it should be doubly lined, first with brown paper, then with grease-proof) and bake in a fairly slow oven for about 2f-2i hours. Turn on to a rack to coo!, then wrap in greaseproof and put away in an airtight tin.
