Anglican Maori Mission Funds

DANCE AT KAKARIKI The second of the fortnightly series of dances and euchre parties sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Durie, Aorangi, in aid of the Anglican Maori Mission funds was held at Kakariki on Friday evening. There was an excellent attendance and the evening proved thoroughly enjoyable. The euchre prize winners were:—Men: Mr. R. Penehira 1, Mr. K. Lewis 2; consolation, Mr. C. Searanckc. Ladies: Mrs. H. Hakaraia J, Mrs. G. Be van 2; consolation, Mrs. J. Poutama.

Those successful in the dancing competitions were:—Lucky spot waltz, Mr. R. Penehira and Miss S. Campbell; Monte Carlo waltz, Mr. D. Durie and Miss A. Hiha; lucky Gay Gordons, Mr. R. Penehira and Mrs. G. Bevan. The dancing continued until the early hours of the morning. Again Mr. Inuwai Lawton and Miss A. Hilia were demand for vocal items, both singers being accorded hearty applause. Mr. Lawton sang that haunting melody, “My Own,” and for an encore “Love Walked In.” Miss A. Hiha, accompanied by Mr. D. Durie, rendered “Sweet Mystery of Life,” and for all encore sang a popular Maori melody, “E Pari Ra. 77 with actions. A dainty supper was served by the ladies. Mr. J. Ashton’s orchestra supplied the music, while Mr. B. King ably filled the position of M.C. Those present included. Mesdames M. Hakaraia, in brown; R. Stevens (Feilding), gold lame; J. Poutama, red rayon; J. Ashton, blue maroeain; R. Penehira, black lace; H. Te Oka, black; G. Bevan, floral crepe; Fergusson, blue; Rauhihi, floral rayon; C. Searancke, floral crepe; Mcßride, blue; M. Martin, floral crepe; Rogers, floral rayon; L. Hakaraia, floral ninon; Misses S. Campbell (Gisborne), grey; A. Hiha, Dannevirke, wool agfalaine; M. Winterburn, H. Searancke (Tokorangi), black; Eileen Rogers, C. Hakaraia, white tulle; M. Lewis (Kai Iwi), black; N. Davies, champagne; A. Fergusson, black with white trimming; D. Morrison (Marton), tartan and white bridge coat; M. Ellery, black; P. Wasson (Auckland), black with gold trimming; K. Ellery, blue; P. Carmine (Feilding), figured ninon; J. Downs (Marton), gold; B. Anderson, black satin; L. Toa, brown; Blanche Prior, navy with gold trimming.
