Rovers and Thistle Draw—One All
EXCITING SOCCER AT NORTH STREET PARK Fine weather and a dry ground made soccer conditions at North Street Park on Saturday the best for many weeks and exciting play was witnessed by a fair number of interested spectators. On No. 1 ground Thistle met Rovers and one of the best games of the season was the outcome, the final score being one goal each. In this match play moved at a high speed right from the first whistle. Rovers scored first with a goal by Sullivan and indications were that they would emerge victorious until Oman headed one into his own net, giving Thistle the equaliser. Both teams strove for the deciding point but the score was unchanged at the call of time. Tho teams were as follow: — Rovers: Chilton, D. Anderson, Oman, Laing, K. Anderson, Bennett, C. Armstrong,, C. Hart, Brown, Fairclough, Sullivan. Thistle: Kempson, Bodell, Hearsey, G. Downes, Glaister, Geekie, R. Young, Moore, Allen, Curtis, Hurcomb. The referee was Mr. S. Bennett. Y.M.C.A. v. St. Andrew’s. On No. 2 ground, Y.M.C.A. met and were defeated by St. Andrew’s who played soccer of a very high standard. Though they fought .hard and displayed their usual good form, Y.M.C.A. went under by six goals to one. Scorers foist. Andrew’s were Young (5) and McSheffery, and for Y.M.C.A. Scarle scored. The half-time score was 3 —o in favour of Saints. The teams were as follow: — Y.M.C.A.: Zimmerman, Bradley, Davidson, Brougham, Ward, Hobbs, Gatley, Searle, Harkness, Dingwall. St. Andrew’s: Lyon, Turner, J. Broughton, Bell, Young, D. Broughton, Anderson, Peterson, A. Young, MeSheffery, Rickard. Mr. J. Locke was tho referee. JUNIOR GRADE Junior grade results were as under:— Primary. Terrace End 1 v. Marist A 0. Hokowhitu 1 v. Marist B 1. Secondary. Technical 2 v. Marist 2. High School B 0 v. St. Andrew’s 0.
