Stage Set for Trans-Pacific Air Service
MAY START EARLY NEXT MONTH Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 26. The resumption of the trans-Paciflc operations of Pan-American Airways early next month is indicated in a Tress Association cablo from Ran Francisco. The message stated that the company had announced that the inauguration of an air mail service from Ran Francisco to Australia would take place ou August 15, and this is construed to mean tho run between San Francisco aud Auckland. No confirmation of the message hat been received by officials at PanAmerican Airways base at Mechanic 7 * Bay, aud aviation circles are at a loss to understand the reference to the service to Australia. The most general interpretation is that the message refers to tho resumption of flights to New Zealand und tho subsequent despatch of Australian mails across the Tasman either by steamer or by air. With moorings and floats in position and the operation staff on duty the Auckland base hud been ready for some time to receive tho new 74-passenger Boeing Clippers which it is proposed to use on tho trans-Pacific run. The latest reports suggest that the newlyestablished base at Canton Island is now probably nvailablo for use, while it is also likely that the work at Noumea in New Caledonia is equally well advanced. As a result the stage is set for the early resumption of the service. OUT IN THEIR GEOGRAPHY! Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 26. Referring to the cabled reports that tho Pan-American service is to go to Australia officials of tho company tonight stated that they considered the reference to Australia as a mistake in geography. It had beeu announced previously that Pan-American was not carrying its service past Auckland to Australia.
