Mr Hugh Kissling, secretary of the Manawatu A. and P. Associationg, left by the Limited Express yesterday' on a short visit to Wellington. Air C. L. Mowlera, of Palmerston North, has returned to his home after undergoing an operation in hospital and is making good progress. Mr ,M. J. S. Wheeler, of England, has been ordained a deacon by tho Rt. Rev. C. A. Clierrington, Bishop of Waikato, and has been appointed curate at Okato. Mr. A. Lawrence, of Timaru, will be judge at the forthcoming drama festival of tho Manawatu area of the British Drama League, to bo held in Palmerston North on September 26 and 27. The North Island elimination festival is also to be held in Palmerston North, when the judge will be Mr. Dali, of Christchurch. Commander C. B. Tinlcy, who re cently relinquished the position of naval officer in charge of the Devonport naval base, has been appointed commander in H.M.S. Southampton, one of the new City' class cruisers. The Southampton is shortly to bo recommissioned and Commander Tinlcy expects to remaiu with her, when she wiil go to South Africa to become flagship of the Cape. Mr W. Wood, of Palmerston North, will be leaving for Sydney early next month to attend the diamond wedding celebrations of his parents, Mr and Mrs W. T. Wood. Both Mr and Mrs Wood are well-remembered by Palmerstonians for their lengthy residence in the city'. Mr Wood was member of Parliament for the district and a former Mayor of Palmerston North, and during his public life Mrs Wood interested herself in the welfare of the developing centre. Mr Wood, who is bC years of age and for the past twelve years has resided in Sydney, renewed many friendships in the city when he revisited Palmerston North on tho occasion of the diamond jubilee celebrations about 38 months ago.
