Bromwich Empire’s “White Hope”
DEVASTATINGLY BAFFLING STYLE VANCOUVER, July 24. At the opening of tho Western Canada championships Bromwich (Australia) defeated D. C. AlcKay (Vancouver), 6 —o, 6 —o. Hop an (Australia) defeated N. Mustart (Vancouver), 6—o, 6 — o. In the doubles Bromwich and Hopman defeated G. Grennan and B. Brammal (Vancouver), 6 —o, 6—o. All-Aus-tralian finals on Saturday are predicted, reversing the perennial Californian victories. In a private workout on Sunday Bromwich amazed tho Vancouver star Jack Brawn, who declared: “Bromwich’s two-handed style was devastatingly baffling. He changes from right hand to left and when I battled with him for five straight sets I could not find a weak spot.” Harry Monk, tournament secretary, declared that Bromwich is the Empire’s “white hope.”
