Power Board Progress

DANNEVIRKE ENGINEER'S MONTHLY REPORT TO BOARD Reporting on his department's progress to the Dannevirke Electric Power Board meeting yesterday, Air. F. O. Devlin (engineer) recorded that there had been a nett incroasc of 17 consumers during the past month making the board's total now 3134. Tea new ranges were put into service. The report continued: “ Twenty new service lines to consumers’ premises have been constructed and livened. Alteration to service lines on account of the construction of new cow sheds is creating a fair amount of extra work. Farmers are strongly advised to give at least three weeks* notice of their intention to make alterations to" sheds. A new 23 k.v.a. transformer lias been erected at the Mataraau Factory corner to provide for additional loading in that locality. A small transformer and new line has been erected to supply the Alangatoro Primary School. Poles have been transported on to several new guarantee lines and erection will be commenced as soon as loan monies are available. “Taking advantage of tho dairy offseason we have carried out extensive maintenance work on lines in the Norsewood and Garfield districts. Poles have been ro-rammed, re-blocked and conductors re-strained. “I would suggest that a letter of appreciation be sent to the Alakotuku ‘School Committee for their very line lead in having a row of macrocarpa trees adjacent to the power lines topped and trimmed. Several other consumers have also intimated their willingness to co-operate in this urgent matter. A new 100 k.v.a. transformer has been erected at the Norsewood Dairy Factory and a re-wire of the substation is to be made on Monday. “In order to carry out this very necessary maintenance work it was necesjsary to arrange several shut-downs in i tho Norsewood district but further inIterruptions should not be required after Ithis week. During tho month I attend‘ed a meeting of the Norsewood dairy factory directors when a rather contentious matter was amicably settled with advantage to both the directors and the board. In the Woodville district a fair amount of time has been spent in tree cutting and trimming. Alterations t 3 lines near the Woodville Factory have been carried out and a new pole erected. A number of defective service lines have been attended to mi l to«t* taken in several transformers and installations. Generally the progre?* tor the month has been lair but has hampered by snowstorms nnd extremely cold weather." j Referring to flic reconstruction of lines at Norsewood, the ehnirmau (Mr, M. O. Grainger) said members might receive complaints from settlers there about the interruptions to the supply; but, he added, the work had to be done to give a better service aud it v.ae impossibly dangerous for the meu to work j with the lines alive. I Air. Grainger also approved tiia action of tho Makotuku School Committee in cutting trees and recommended the adoption of the engineer's suggestion of a letter of thanks to the corncommittee which was readily agreed to. On the motion of Alessrs. H. Fredrickj son and F. Craven, the engineer was I thanked for attending the meeting at Norsewood as stated and effecting a settlement which was satisfactory to both the board aud the factory directors. Mr. Devlin explained that the action decided upon would tend to balance the loading iu the Norsewood area.
