Golf Competition A medal round played on the local golf links on Saturday was won by J. McKinlay with a card of 69 net, the runner-up being Reg. Johnston with 73 net. Dance at Ngawapurua Tho annual dance of the Ngawapurua Hall Society is being held this evening. These gatherings have a splendid reputation for entertainment, so remember to bo there. Bible Class Social A social gathering held by the local Mothodist Young Men’s Bible Class on Saturday evening was in the charge of Messrs N. Dew and H. Lawn. Visitors were present from Palmerston North, Dannevirke and Levin. Basketball Competition In the junior grade basketball competition on Saturday, Ngawapurua defeated Konini, the former team thus maintaining an unbeaten record so far for the season. Papatawa beat Pahiatua High School, 23—9; Woodville A beat Woodville B, 34: —14. Anniversary Celebrations Despite tho very inclement weather, the 48th anniversary celebrations of the local corps of tho Salvation Army, on Sunday, were successful. Major J. Nelson, of Wellington, was the special officer for the occasion, and he was assisted by Captain L. H. Jones. The addresses by Major Nelson were greatly appreciated. A delightful Maori concert was held last evening. War Relief Loans Discontinuance of loans to former soldiers was urged at the annual meeting, at Napier, of the Hawke's Bay Relief Association, but the proposal was considered too drastic. Mr. Wm. Galbraith (Woodville delegate) said that with the present limit oi loans, the assistance given was small, and he was satisfied that it could bo obtained from outside. The funds were now dwindling, and should be conserved for the making of grants where assistance was required. The chairman assured delegates that members of the executive would give careful consideration to the views expressed.
