The Honourable Mr. Justice Blair, of Wellington, is a guest at the Grand hotel.

Mr. C. V. Freedman, ’who for the last six months has been acting-secre-tary of the Automobile Association (Hawke’s Bay), has been appointed permanent secretary.

Air. C. J. Wilkins, John Edmond Fellow of the University of Otago, is to leave for England in the next feiv days to continue his work in inorganic chemistry at the Imperial College, London. Air. K. Tainura arrived at Wellington from Sydney by the Awatea to take over the managership in New Zealand of A'amashita and Company (London), Limited. He is replacing Air. T. Akiyama. Dr. Frederick Staton, conductor of the Sheffield Philharmonic Society, is to arrive at Auckland by the Niagara from Vancouver to-day. He will conduct the examinations in New Zealand this year of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Alusic. At its meeting on Friday night the Feilding A. and P. Association recorded its sympathy with Mrs. Perrett and family in the passing of Mr. J. H. Perrett. In referring to tho death of Air. Perrett, the president (Mr. W. G. Booth) said that it was with regret that members had learned of the passing of one who had been so long associated with the society. Tho late Mr. Perrett was a past president of tho association and for years had acted on the committee. The meeting stood in silence in recording its sympathy. The Presbytery of Wellington, at a special meeting, sustained a call to the Rev. J. R. Blanchard, minister of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, from Scots Church, Adelaide, South Australia. The call was placed in tne hands of Mr. Blanchard, who accepted it. lie will leave Wellington for Adelaide at tho end of August. The moderator, Dr. I. W. Fraser, and other members referred to the loss Mr. Blanchard’s acceptance of the caLi would mean to the Presbytery of Wellington and tho Presbyterian Church of New Zealand as a whole. Rev. J. S. Murray, of Kelburn, was appointed interim-moderator of St. John’s during the vacancy.
