From Our Own Correspondent. Wairakei Defence Rifle Club

Last Saturday, under fair weather conditions, the Wairakei Cup was come-Med. Seven shots were fired over ranges of 30u, 500 and 600 j ards. There was a good attendance of members and K. Bielsk: was the winner with the score of 27—32

W.D.F.U. There was a good attendance at the weekly card evening sponsored by the W.D.F.U. Last week’s winners were Miss T. Evans and Mr. G. Truman, the consolation prizes going to Mrs. Pemberton and Clarence Jones. The last night of this series will be held to-night. Woman's Guild Mrs. T. Rose presided over a good attendance at the July meeting. Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Blacker gave a play-reading, which was enjoyed by all. The sewing competition for next month will be a handbag made from any material. Mrs. Jensen was a visitor from the South island. Hostesses for next month will be Mesdames Jones and Blackler. Tho sewing competition was won by Mrs. L. G. Rose, with Mrs. Ashworth second and Mrs. Blackler third. A social competition was won by Mrs. Ashworth. Football Ciub Tho local senior Rugby football team was defeated by It points to nil. Tries were score for Waituna by C. Pollard and P. Shannon, one try being converted by P. Shannon, who also kicked a penalty. I Th© juniors had a bye. Preparations arcwill in hand for the annual ball, to be held on July 28. Plverytliing is being done to make this function the event of the year.
