After a visit to Wellington Mrs. C. Akers, of Opiki, and Miss J. Akers, have returned home. Mr. and Mrs. B. 11. Bowater, Spur Road, Colyton, and their son Bernard are motor-touring in tho north. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Leamy, Raumai, have returned home after spending a delightful holiday in the Wellington district. Mrs. David Blackley, of New Plymouth, returned home yesterday after a holiday spent with friends in FeildMiss Jean Scott, Cuba Street, will leave next month for Greymouth, where she has been appointed adjudicator of tho dancing sections of the Greymouth Competitions. Mesdames N. Boswell, To Awamutu, and A. Buckle, Ninety Milo Beach, were visitors to “ Kaianga Moe," Awapuni, on their way homo from the W.D.F.U. j Conference in Wellington. Mrs. J. Hare and Miss Hare have returned to Palmerston North after visiting Mrs. Neville Hare (Maxwell) and Mrs. E. McG. Hare (Wanganui), and ( have as their guo3ts Mrs. E. J. Rose (Masterton) and Mrs. A Kilmister, (Hunterville) Mrs. R. J. Harper, Mrs. John Graham I and Miss Graham left Feilding on I Friday evening for Auckland, from» where they will leave for a holiday to bo spent mainly in California. The travellers have been given a number of delightful bon voyage parties and a host of their friends gathered at the railway station to give them a rousing send-off. Proposals made by the Hawke's Bay Hospital Board for the importation of nurses from Denmark to relieve the shortage in New Zealand are not favoured by the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, according to a letter received f rora him by the board. Dr. Watt suggested that if nurses were engaged on contract from overseas they should be of British birth if possible, as there would be no guarantee that the qualifications of others would bo sufficient for Now Zealand standards. j A pleasant occasion was provided by tho Palmerston North branch of the’ National Party when a social was held in tho Empire Hall on Thursday even-j ing Dancing to music provided by a I professional orchestra occupied the time ! very happily with bright interludes for items by Mesdames Whitehead and J. Riddle (pianoforto duets), H. Byers (songs) and Miss F. Whittaker (elocu-1 tion). -Mrs. W. F. Field (president of tho women’s branch) acted as hostess, and tho duties of M.C’s. were carried out by Messrs. H. G. Mills and L. 1.1 Plimmer. Among the guests were Mr. | and Mrs. J. A. Nash and Mrs. Mills (wife of tho president). Supper was provided by tho ladies’ committee. It is hoped to have a similar social next month.
