Hitchman’s Corner Memorial
SUPPORT POR WATER TROUGH Yesterday’s meeting of the Kiwitea County Council resolved to make a grant of £5 towards the cost of erecting a stock drinking trough on Kimbolton Road to commemorate Hitchman’s corner and its association with the pioneering days of Feilding. The council had bofore it a letter from the Feilding branch of the Farmers’ Union soliciting the council’s support for the proposal and stating that the proposal, which had been advanced by the Women’s Division, had received the support of the Feilding Borough Council and the Oroua County Council. The chairman (Cr. L. T. McLean) remarked that the Kimbolton highway was badly off for stock-drinking places and the idea of a memorial drinkingtrough appealed to him. Other councillors supported the idea and agreement was reached to make a donation of £5.
