Noted Samoan Chieftain Passes

Hon. hlalietoa Tanumafili died suddenly to day at his home at Faatora, near Apia. He was 59 years of age. In 189 S he was declared King of Samoa, but resigned in tho following year preceding the inauguration of the German Government in 1900. He was appointed lautua, or adviser, to the Administrator in 1913 and held that position until his death in 1929. He was appointed a member of the Samoan Legislative Council, but resigned in 1937. Ho received the 0.8. E. in 1931. The interment will take place at Mulinuu, the resting place of the highest chiefs of Samoa.
