Danzig Quiet But Continues to Arm

Streets Guarded By Storm Troopers

United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright, Received Monday, 10.5 p.m. LONDON, July 3. A Paris message states that M. Bonnet, Foreign Minister, receiving Herr von Welczeck, German Ambassador, warned him of France’s firm determination to fulfil to the hilt her obligations to Poland. M. Bonnet emphasised that France would not tolerate any attempt to annex Danzig cither from within or without. A Warsaw message states that the situation in Danzig continues to be quiet. The Poles report that fresh supplies of war materials have been landed from a German steamer in Danzig, including longrange guns, light tanks and anti-aircraft guns. Some of the side streets in Danzig have been closed to traffic and guarded by storm troopers. The Daily Telegraph’s Paris correspondent says it is understood France is suggesting that Britain and France guarantee Luxemburg. In a message to the Government candidate in the North Cornwall by-election, Mr. Chamberlain says: “The British Government has always expressed its desire that differences between nations should be settled by discussion and co-opera-tion. On the other hand, we have made it no less clear that we are resolutely opposed to attempts to impose settlements by force and that, if need be, would meet such attempts by force.” In a message to another Government supporter engaged in the by-election at Caerphilly (Wales), Mr. Chamberlain also refers to the international situation. He says: “The vast armaments and the peace front which we are socking to build threaten no one. Their sole purpose is to strengthen and consolidate the forces of those who arc determined to resist any attempt at aggression or domination.’’
