Manawatu Heads
From Our Own Correspondent. School Bus Transport With an increased number of families now resident at Manawatu Heads, over SO children arc transported daily to the school at Foxton. This at times lias entailed overloading of the school bus, but the position is peculiar inasmuch as the numuers fluctuate over short periods, due in part to the housing shortage. Many families with children of school age take up residence at the beach for a few months on that account; thus it will be realised that the surplus is only periodical, and that it would be unfair to uie contrateor, Mr. Kelvin Dando, to involve liim in any additional expense in respect to the school bus service. With the object of arranging the matter to the mutual satisfaction of -nil concerned, a meeting of parents was convened on Friday, when Mr. U. K. Bolton, secretary i>f the Wanganui Education Board, Mr. K. MeCarthney, transport officer to the board, and Mr. 1. W. Mudford, district representative, met them to discuss the position. Suggestions for the betterment of the service were brought forward, and the contractor expressed his willingness to meet tho requirements of the board. As an outcome of the meeting, it is understood that a double trip daily will be commenced immediately, thus the younger children will be taken to school later and returned earlier than in the past. The complaints of parents who consider the day too long for their young children should now be at least modified by the inception of this service.
