JULY STROKE HANDICAP AND QUALIFYING ROUND AT HOKOWHITU

The competition at Hokowhitu on Saturday was the July Stroke Handicap, in conjunction with which was played the third qualifying round. The conditions were good and there was “placing’ * on the fairways. The best scores off the stick were those of O. H. Williams (76), K. S. Glendinniug (77), W. W. Smith (77), N. H. Amon (78) and A. M. Johns. Following are the leading cards in the stroke handicap:—

R. A. Brace 95—20—75 Stapleford Bogey Under wintry conditions a four-ball Stapleford bogey was played during the week-end and there was a big entry. The leading scores were as under:— Pts. T. Fairey .. 38 E. R. Chapman and F. G. Jolly .. 36 E. August and King 35 The best golf of the w eek-end appears to have been that of W. W. Smith, who has been playing consistently well. On Saturday he shot a 77 in the third qualifying round and later, in a McLennan cup match, he was round in 72 off the stick. ENJOYABLE INTER-CLUB GAME RAUMAI PLAYS PALMERSTON NORTH One of the most enjoyable inter-club games that is played by members of the Palmerston North Golf Club is that against the Rauffiai club, and when the Raumai team journeyed to Palmerston North over the week-end to play the home team on the Awatapu links, the contest certainly lived up to the high standard set previously, as far as enjoyment was concerned. The match was won by Palmerston North by a very small margin after some excellent golf had been played. Led by their popular captain, J. McDonald, the Raumai team was as follows: H. Fitzherbert, D.
