France Fears Danzig Coup
City May Declare for Germany 4000 Nazis Have Entered in Past Twenty-four Hours United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, June 28. The Paris correspondent of the British United Press says that the French Prime Minister, 'M. Daladier, conferred with Parliamentary leaders and expressed the fear that c.n internal coup was imminent at Danzig, after which the city would declare itself part of the Reich. It is now estimated in Warsaw that 4000 Germans have entered Danzig in the last 24 hours. One thousand horses have been requisitioned, and drills are being carried out. After firing a warning shot, Polish eoastal artillery shot down a German military aeroplane which was allegedly flying over fortifications opposite the port of Gdynia, on the Baltic. The plane fell into the sea and sent out an SOS message. A passing German merchant ship picked up the occupants. The German Air Ministry at first refused to give details of the incident, but later denied that the plane had been shot down. It stated that the pilot heard firing but did not know whether it was a warning or practice shooting, and that he landed safely.
