Tokomaru
From Our Own Correspondent. A surprise party gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Pope on Saturday evening to bid farewell to Mr. V. Pope, who has been promoted from the local Post and Telegraph Dept, to a position in the Wellington Post Office. The evening was spent in games, competitions and dancing. Mrs. G. Bignal and Airs* MeNab won competitions. Miss C. AliUscontributed a solo and music was supplied by Mr. T. Patrick and Joy Patrick. Mr. J. Liggins, on behalf of the residents of the district, asked Air. Pope to accept a wrist watch, fountain pen and a travelling rug. Air. Pope suitably responded and was accorded musical honours. Supper was served by the ladies. Those present were Mr. and Airs. J. McNab, Air. and Mrs. H. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. J. Liggins, Air. and Airs. A. Claridge, Mr. and Airs. D. Gardener, Air. ami Airs. Jackson, Air. and Airs. K. Hislop, Mr. and All's. N. Kelly, Mr. and Mrs. G. Pope, Air. and Mrs. W. Pope: Alesdames J. Wells, L. Jamieson, 11. Parr, G. Chivers, AI. Ella, H. Jewel; Misses J. Patrick, I. Hansen, C. Hills, B. Liggins, M. Pope, B. McNeil; Messrs. T. Kelly, G. Chivers, Gardner, G. Wilton. M Jamieson, C. Bird,- N. Liggins. Air. .1 Wells has returned home after being the guest of Air. and Mrs. R. Parker, of Tiakitahuna. Air. E. Waghorn, of Stratford, is spending an extended holiday with his parents, Air. and Airs. H. Waghorn. Alaster Brian Harper Is an inmate of ti i Nortn Hospital. A basketball and football match were played between the Tokomaru and Foxton school children last Saturday. Fox ton winning the football 10—5 and Foxton girls winning the basketball 22—8.
