From Our Own Correspondent. Odd Fellowship At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal FuKton Lodge, N.U. Bro. E. A. Corlett presided over a large muster of members. One member was reported on the list and one nsw member was initiated into the order. The secretary read out a statement in regard to the 1934 surplus, showing that a number of membin had received a considerable reduction in contribution and ten members had had their contributions wiped out. The May quarter balance-sheet showed that the lodge was in a healthy condition financially. A compstition winner was E. P. J. Holloway, of Wanganui. Personal Mr. and Mrs. W. Anderson left Foxton on Wednesday for Otaki, where Mr. Anderson has been transferred. His position in the local telephone exchange has been filled by a supernumerary, so that there will not be any new appointment made locally. Mr. W. Hals, works foreman at the textile factory, succeeded in gaining a pass with flying honours at the recent engineers’ examination held in WellingP.W.M.U. There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the P.W.M.U., which was presided over by Mrs. P. McG. Murray (president). Mrs. Norrie and Mrs. Vincent, members of the Presbyterian Association, together with other visitors from Wanganui and the members of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild, were also the guests of the union. Mrs. Xorrie and Mrs. Vincent addressed the meeting, giving an outline of the aims am objects of the union and of its work rr. New Zealand and in foreign countries. They were accorded a vote of thanks. It was decided to form a girls’ auxiliary' and also to form the “busy bees" for younger children. High School Old Pupils It was gratifying to see such a good attendance of players at the second meeting of the ping pong club, despite the. inclement weather. The club has been particularly unfortunate in regard to weather, heavy rain prevailing on the first night and again on the second night the conditions were extremely wintry. The enthusiasm of the players was sufficiently keen, however, for them to face the elements, and, as a result, an enjoy able evening was spent. Friendly games were played and a number of challenge matches were keenly contested, some of the members having attained a high standard of play. Supper was served by the lady members of the committee. Ladder matches will be commenced next week and it is anticipated that inter-club matches will be arranged at an early date. There will be considerable competition among players for team positions. Basketball A general meeting of the Foxton Basketball Club was presided over by Air. W. E. Hale. The election of chairman and secretary resulted as follows: Chairman, Mrs. M. A. Ross (subject to consent); secretary. Miss E. Titcombe. The matter of evening practices was discussed and it was decided that players be approached regarding their willingness to subscribe 6d per player per night towards the cost of engaging the Royal Theatre for one night's practice a weak and that onlookers be also charged 6d admission. It was decided that a shop day be held tw augment the club’s funds. Surf and Life Saving Club At & general meeting of the Foxton Surf and Life Saving Club the president, Mr. M. E. Perreau, occupied tne chair. A discyssion ensued in connection with the holding of an annual ball. It was suggested that it might be possible for the club to arrange for the Minister oi Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry) to be in attendance for ths purpose of presenting the club's annual trophy and also to make the presentation on behalf of ti. Royal Life Saving Society, it was decided to leave this matter in the hands o. Mr. V. Rowlands. A letter was received from the CastleclifC Club regarding the proposed district association and it was decided to meet their representatives a Sanson on the 25th inst. Messrs. Saveli, V. Rowlands and M. Doyle were elected delegates to meet the Castlecliff representatives.
Centennial Memorial Committee The grand hard-up ball organised by the Centennial Memorial Committee proved to be a pleasant function, although, owing to the unfavourable weather, the attendance was not as large as anticipated. The "hard-up’’ costumes o. a number of the dancers created consid Arable amusem?nt. Excellent music was supplied by a professional orchestra. Extra dance numbers were played b;< Messrs. J. Newton and L. Mat tar, and the duties of M.C. were carried out bj Mr. D. McKenzie. Supper was served in the supper-room, after which dancing was resumed and continued until a late hour. A competition held was won bj Miss M. McCarthy.
