Japan 's Scapegoat

BRITAIN VILIFIED LONDON, June 10. Britain lias become Japan’s scapegoat and is blamed for tlio failure to subdue China, says a despatch from Tokio. Japaneso newspapers have intensilied their campaign of distortion, and vilification and declare that Britain alone prevents reconstruction in the Far East. Britain, they say, must be treated as an enemy whose rights in China must not be respected, the correspondent of the Times reports. France is regarded as being insignificant, and the United States is regarded as Britain’s catspaw. This anti-British campaign, the correspondent adds, is probably designed to bring pressure on Britain to withdraw her moral and material support of Chiang Kai-shek, but it has resulted in building up an anti-British public opinion which responsible statesmen regret.
