Good Sale at Addington

Per Press As»ociatlon. CHRISTCHURCH, June 21. Improved values during the last few weeks were fully maintained at Addington to-day, with a tendency towards firming for best wethers. Store sheep: There was quite a fair demand, particularly for wethers. Some two-tooths sold at 12s 2d, a truck lot of wether hoggets at 11s 6d, and other pens of grown wethers at 8s 6d to 11s 6d. About 500 fat lambs were entered, compared with 580 last week. There was little change in the market, butchers competing keenly for the small selection of suitable types available. More than 5000 fat sheep were entered, compared with a short penning of 4200 last week. From the start the demand was well maintained at the best prices of last week for ewes and a shade better for best wethers. Extra prime heavy wethers to 30s 4d, prime heavy 25s to 27s 6d, prime medium 229 to 245, light to 16s 6d; extra prime heavy ewes to 27s 4d, prime heavy 21s to 235, prime medium 16s to 19s fid, light to 13s. Fat cattle: The entry of 490 was slightly less than the average of tbe recent sales. The sale was good, with values for practically all classes definitely better than a week ago. For best steers the improvement was equal to about 20s a head, medium 10s to 15s and other sorts also sold a little more freely. Good beef ranged from 36s to 37s 6d per 1001 b. Extra prime heavy steers to £l7 17s fid, prime heavy £l3 15s to £ls, prime medium £ll 10s to £l3, light to £9; extra prime heifers to £l2 17s fid, prime £9 10s to £lO 15s, medium £6 10s to £8 10s, light £6 ss; extra prime cows to £ll 12s 6d, prime £7 5s to £8 15s, medium £5 10s to to 15s ; light to £5 55. - Porkers: The entry was smaller than last week, but values showed very little improvement. Choppers were in small supply and met an excellent demand. Baconers were forward in medium numbers and the sale was again good, last week’s rates being fully maintained. Porkers 31s 6d to 51s 6d, average price per lb. 6Jd to 6sd; baconers 59s fid to £5 Is 6d, average price per lb. 6£d to 7d.
